Every cloth diapering mom seems to have a different choice of detergent they choose to use. There are many, many different detergents and cleaners to choose from, and you may want to try different ones to see which you like best. Because we know different moms use different systems and have different lifestyles, we highly recommend the following outlines when looking for the right detergent for your diapers:
Steer clear of any detergents with brighteners or enzymes, as these can break down your diapers fibers, not only losing absorbency and shortening the life of them, but they can also cause diaper rash.
Avoid perfumed detergents if you can, as they cause build which can irritate your babies bottom.
Stay away from laundry soaps, because they too can cause build up.
Never use bleach or fabric softeners, as these will greatly shorten the life of your diapers, and sometimes ruin them.
Always use 1/4 of the amount of detergent that is recommended.
